With this name, Musea Brugge wants to put itself forcefully and innovatively on the map, in line with contemporary cultural policy.
BRUSK is an acronym with many possibilities; it could stand for example for Brugge + Stimulans + Kunst(en) or + Schone + Kunsten or + Stedelijke + Kunsthal or + Stedelijk + Kunstencentrum, etc....

With BRUSK, the city will bet on innovative exhibitions, including contemporary options in terms of presentations.

BRUSK will be on the Garenmarkt site, just next to the Groeninge Museum. In total, this will be a 20,000m² site that will be attractive and publicly accessible. The two exhibition halls will be raised one level and separated by a public ford, creating a very open, transparent and freely accessible ground floor.

BRUSK will be a new dynamic, cultural venue for exhibitions with international appeal. A state-of-the-art museum building that prioritises integral sustainability, architectural innovation and harmony.

You walk freely into BRUSK via a light-flooded passageway. On the ground floor you will find the reception area, the museum shop, workshops, an auditorium and a restaurant. This is an open, transparent and freely accessible place through which we want to give space back to the city, its inhabitants and visitors.

On the first floor, you will find two spacious, museum rooms that have everything you need to host large, international exhibitions. The halls (40x40m and 20x40m) stand out strongly in the museum landscape by a natural light coming in from the north, exactly as the light enters the classical artist's studio.

Through two large, north-facing windows (19x15m and 9.5x15m), the light richly enters both rooms. In addition, the height of the rooms (13.75m) carries with it the historical memory of a church or cathedral. The exhibition halls are also flexible and can easily be divided up. This will allow us to present exceptional works and exhibitions, but also bring dance, theatre and music into the museum.
