VZW Eigen Thuis was founded in 1975 and presents itself as a centre for the integration of people with disabilities. In 1980, VZW Eigen Thuis started a communal living facility in Grimbergen for thirty adults with severe motor disabilities. An Adapted Transport Service provides door-to-door transport for the residents and all persons with reduced mobility in the Halle-Vilvoorde district.

VZW Eigen Thuis has 81 members of staff. Within the operation, the independence and self-reliance of the residents takes precedence. The majority of the residents are wheelchair-dependent and have an evolving clinical picture, which means that the needs in the residential units also evolve.

The current Eigen Thuis residential facility and meeting centre were planned in a residential area with the aim of promoting integration. Today, the building no longer appears to fulfil this ambition. VZW Eigen Thuis is therefore planning a new building on the same site, whose implantation, organisation and design optimally support the client's mission.

Eigen Thuis starts from the vision that the aim of every housing form on the Eigen Thuis site is to facilitate the daily life and individual life project of the residents and to promote the social integration and emancipation of the residents.

Project description:

On the plot, in the first phase, a new building is planned next to the existing building, with the residential facility for adults with severe motor disabilities and guest rooms on the ground floor. The building will also contain a multi-purpose room with kitchen and administrative areas. The new building will be located on the existing car park.
